Dehradun:

The former resort at the Himalayan foothills is located at an altitude of 2100 feet (600 m) above sea level. You will be staying in the southernmost suburbs within a rather rural and quiet environment. However, depending on the time of day, heavy traffic may be expected on the main road (half a mile away). Express coaches, some of which are of western standard, and a railroad operate between Delhi and Dehradun. Average travelling time is 6 to 8 hours for 150 miles (240 km), due to road conditions, traffic delays and rest stops.

Climate:

Goto http://www.weather.com/ for a weather forecast for Dehradun, India, and monthly average temperature and precipitation data records. During the past years, however, the climate in Dehradun was slightly warmer and dryer during the months of January and February, if compared to those average records.

Kirpal Kunj:

“Kirpal Kunj” means “Garden of Kirpal”. The place has been sponsored and constructed by Master’s initiates only, under the supervision of late Harcharan Singh Ji during the early 90s, as a place of meditation and satsang, within walking distance to Manav Kendra.

It is western-style equipped and includes: meditation hall, langar (free kitchen, with purified water, toaster, stove, fridge, washing machine etc.), comfortable bedrooms for 2 to 4 people (beds, blankets, pillows, mirror, 220 V electricity, cold and hot water, shower, western-style toilet, towels), a library (with quite a number of Master’s books in English and in Hindi, some in German), dining room, audio facilities for Master’s talks on CD or cassette tape, a DVD-player and a TV-set for watching Master’s films.

Kirpal Kunj has a nicely arranged flower garden, the property is protected by a solid wall and front gates for safety. A housekeeper and his wife are taking care of the building, keeping the rooms clean and, in case anything is required, they will be happy to retrieve it from a shop in Dehradun or from the local markets.

Harcharan Singh’s basic idea was to supply anything possible, so that sisters and brothers visiting this place will not be disturbed in their sweet remembrance of the Master. This is also continued today by a few dedicated initiates, who render their service to Satguru, as they say, as a matter of Love.

Surroundings:

Situated half a mile from the main road into Dehradun in a village-type setting, Kirpal Kunj has remained a fairly quiet place over the years. There is a wide open grassy ground in front, small shops close by, one very well equipped with a range of western-style products (food, beverage and hygiene articles), fruit and vegetable stands and a pharmacy.

If skies are clear enough, the Himalayan foothills may be seen from the flat roof of the building. The main road (Saharanpur road) leads straight through Dehradun and beyond into Rajpur Road; it is a 45 min travel to Master’s house. A journey to Rishikesh takes about 1 h 15 min (40 miles, 65 km).

Program:

Before leaving for Dehradun from Delhi, a visit to Sawan Ashram can be arranged. Thereafter departure for Dehradun, stop for lunch at Chetal Grand (clean western style rest area with restaurant and facilities), arrival at Kirpal Kunj in the late afternoon.

Stay at Kirpal Kunj is focussed on Meditation and Satsang only. 3 meditation sessions are offered each day: at 3 am, 9 am and 3 pm (2 hours each), either in the meditation hall or individually. There will also be 2 satsangs daily: at 12 noon and at 6 pm (in Hindi and/or in English). There is, however, no obligation to participate in the full program. Films or master’s slides may be shown in the evening.

Besides visits to Manav Kendra and Rajpur Road, a half-day trip to Rishikesh can be arranged, to see Rani ki Koti (Master’s house in 1948), the Ganges river banks where Master sat on the stone, and Raghuvacharya’s Ashram.
